Epexegesis
César Vallejo
A dance performance inspired by the life and work of the influential Peruvian poet César Vallejo. Through an interdisciplinary language that combines dance, theatre, traditional and contemporary rhythms, as well as poetry and spoken scenes, this production explores in part the poet's turbulent but hopeful context during Peru's decade of social change in the 1920s.
"Confidence in many, but no longer in one; . . .
"Confidence in many, but no longer in one; . . .
. . . and in yourself alone, in yourself alone, in yourself alone."
. . . and in yourself alone, in yourself alone, in yourself alone."
Human Poems
César Vallejo
The performance takes its source from the poems written by Vallejo during his imprisonment and the experiences described in Eduardo Gonzales Viaña's book Vallejo en los infiernos (Cesar Vallejo's Season in Hell). However, it does not follow a linear or biographical narrative. Instead, it presents a collage of memories, ideas and poetic impressions, evoking Vallejo's emotions and struggles from his imprisonment to his release, breaking chronology to capture his emotional essence.
"My God,
"My God,
had you been a man,
had you been a man,
today you would know how to be God"
today you would know how to be God"
The Eternal Dice
